As a commonly used energy storage device in transportation, energy storage and other fields, lead-acid batteries emit a variety of harmful gases during production, charging and recycling processes. These gases not only pose potential safety hazards, but are also closely related to environmental compliance, making gas purification an essential link for the development of the industry.

The gas components generated by lead-acid batteries are complex. During the production stage, pollutants such as lead fumes and sulfuric acid mist are released. Lead fume particles are tiny and easily form aerosols, which can damage the human nervous system after long-term exposure. Sulfuric acid mist is highly corrosive, which can easily cause equipment aging and air pollution. The mixture of hydrogen and oxygen produced during charging is prone to explosion when reaching a certain concentration. If these gases are directly discharged without treatment, it will not only violate national environmental protection technical specifications such as GB/T 32068, but also bring safety risks to production and operation.
At present, the gas purification technology for lead-acid batteries has formed a mature application system. For pollutants such as acid-base waste gas and lead fumes, multi-stage packed towers and other equipment are widely used. Through countercurrent gas-liquid contact, chemical neutralization and physical interception are achieved, and deep purification is completed with the help of mist eliminators, ensuring that the emission concentrations of sulfuric acid mist, lead dust and other pollutants meet the standards. For flammable and explosive hydrogen-oxygen mixed gas, professional collection and dilution discharge are adopted to avoid explosion risks from the source. Such purification equipment is mostly made of corrosion-resistant PP or stainless steel materials, suitable for the complex working conditions of battery production and recycling, with simple operation and maintenance, which can balance purification efficiency and actual enterprise operation needs.
With the continuous tightening of environmental protection standards, the requirements for the compliance rate of lead dust and acid mist emissions in the lead-acid battery industry are constantly increasing. Gas purification is no longer an optional link, but the foundation for enterprises to carry out compliant production and green development. Efficient gas purification can not only reduce pollutant emissions and mitigate harm to the ecological environment and human health, but also improve the utilization rate of recycled lead resources, achieving a win-win situation of environmental and production benefits.
From production to recycling, effective gas purification for lead-acid batteries is not only the bottom line of safe production, but also the responsibility of practicing green development, and a key measure to promote the transformation and upgrading of the lead-acid battery industry.
